Theoretical Model And Application Of Choosing Regional Leading Industry

This academic thesis chooses the choosing regional leading industry in our under-developed provinces as the object of study. Drawing lessons from basic theories such as industrial economics, regional economics, development economics and market economy theory as well, and basing on both domestic and foreign research fruits, the writer considers the reality of under-developed provinces, particularly HeNan Province and carries out theoretical and practical analyses.Firstly, this thesis reviews the theories related to choosing leading industry, systematically sums up the research fruits of the principles and reference points of choosing regional leading industry extracted by Chinese scholars. Then it points out shortcomings of the past similar research:(1)Transplanting general theory of choosing national leading industry to regional economic fields;(2)research aiming at choosing regional leading industry is not sufficient and concrete.Secondly, the thesis points out leading industry plays a vital role in the regional economic development basing on the deep understanding of the concept and characteristics of regional leading industry.Then, keeping the reality of our under-developed provinces in mind, the writer analyses some influential factors existing in the process of choosing regional leading industry and offers a theoretical model which is suitable for a region, especially under-developed agricultural province to choose leading industry. The model includes three aspects:(l) objective aspect (2) criterion aspect (3) norm aspect .Last, the writer applies the theoretical model to the reality of HeNan Province and determines the leading industries that should be given priority by using the Principal Component Analysis. They are: Farming, Electric and telecommunications equipment, Electric equipment and machinery, Transport equipment. Food production and tobacco processing, Petroleum and chemical industry, Commerce and Tourism. At the ending of the thesis, the writer analyses the leading industries of HeNan Province and their collective industry advantages, and at the same time offers relevant countermeasures.
