The rapid development of tourism industry since 1980's has made the issues ofenvironment pollution very serious in China. However, researches on recreationalenvironment are relatively delayed, which makes it even more urgent to further improvethe corresponding studies and managements. This project was carried out on-the-spot survey and research of FuZhou National ForestPark in summer and autumn of 2003. In the paper, the author tries to evaluate the situationof environmental factors such as waters, soils, vegetations, atmosphere and landscape ofdiverse sites in the park; analyze effects of recreation development on natural environment;and bring forward corresponding strategies on environment control and management. The related factors such as DO, EC, BOD5showed that water qualities differ about ten-timesbetween reservoir located lower reaches and lettering pond scene located upper reaches. The results illustrate recreation development has affected water qualities in the parkconsiderably, the effect was relatively more severe downstream and less severe upstream.the main reasons for this result were improper location of tourist service establishmentsand incompleted sewage treatments.Soils researches were carried out in four spots: ancient post road, bamboo forest, bamboogarden, and observation tower. Results showed activities of tourists have hardened the soil, reduced its organism content and water content, and increased its unit weight. Basically theseverity of the effects increases with the increase of tourist activity. The former scene of arborescence is now a tourist dense area. With the development ofrecreation in recent years, its function to reserve idioplasm resource is neglected, plantcategory was decreased from 131 families 546 genus 1703 species to 109 families 389genus 1007 species, some imported rare species even disappeared. Trees located besideroads were carved and damaged badly. In bamboo garden, the wounded degree of thebamboo planted within lm of the roadside was as high as 70%.Atmosphere quality was heavily affected by recreation, especially in those dense areas oftourist. In the summer, dust content was 0.07 mg/m3 at east gate, where tourists collectedand scattered, while it was only 0.01 mg/m3 at LanYuan scene, where tourists seldom come. The bacteria content also decreased with decrease of tourist density. The effects of recreation on landscape were relatively small, except some recreationestablishments affected the vision of the park and tourist activities damage vegetation tosome extend.Based on the above analysis and evaluation, the paper tries to bring forward some practicalmeasures for FuZhou National Forest Park's environment protection and management, therefore provide a scientific foundation for its further development.
