| Xinjiang, as a typical multiracial province, whether national unity or not is closely related to Xinjiang's reformation, development, stability, and is related to the country's modernization and impregnability of frontier defence. Since China was founded, national unity of Xinjiang under the leading of Maxist national unity theory has been implemented thoroughly, has achieved great success and accumulated abundant experiences. In the new century, as a member of WTO and Western China Development, which bring a lot of question and make us confront severe challenge. Therefore, under this situation, exploring theory of Xinjiang national unity, looking back the practical history of Xinjiang national unity, summarizing the experiences, all these have significantly guiding and practical meaning on national unity, frontier stability and modernization of Xinjiang and even the whole country in new times.The article consists of three parts:The first part: in theory, Marxist national unity theory is the theoretical basis of Xinjiang national unity. It is an integral part of Maxist national theory. It is created by Marx and Engers. Later, it was developed by Leon, Star. In the process of China's revolution and building, the three leading groups, having Maozedong, Dengxiaoping and Jiangzemin as the core respectively, enriched and developed Marxist national unity theory, made it the guiding ideology for us to solve the ethnic problems. It also lay a theoretical foundation for Xinjiang national unity.The second part: connect the theory and practice. It expounds Xinjiang national unity, which is under the guide of Maxist national unity since 1949. This part is discussed in three periods. The first period is from 1949 to 1957, which is the transitional period towards socialism. For facing the severe situation of Xinjiang, so the national unity of Xinjiang is rather important. For this sake, the party and Xinjiang government put Marxist national unity theory into Xinjiang practice, implemented a set of policies and measures on politics, economy, education and so on, and get great achievement, accumulated abundant experience. The second period is from 1958 to 1976,which is tortuous developing period of national unity of xinjiang. Due to deviating from Marxist national unity theory, the national unity of xinjiang was destroyed to a certain extent. The third period is from 1976 to now, which is recovery and developing of period of national unity. Under the guide of Marxist national unity theory, Xinjiang government has adopted a lot of policies and methods, and have made great achievements and accumulated valuable experience too.The third part: in 21st century, the situation we are facing and the strategy we are thinking. First, discussing the implementing of Western China Development, on the one hand, it provides a good opportunity of developing to Xinjiang national unity; on the other hand, Xinjiang national unity is still confronting great challenge. It is shown in several aspects: contradictions caused by economical interest, implementing of national policies, population interaction, positive aspects of national consciousness, religion problem and minority education are increasing. Secondly, in the light of these problems, put forward new countermeasures in new century: make more efforts to promote the education of minority theory and policy, deal with the ethnic conflicts properly, improve the understand and strike towards ethnic spliticism, build a well-off society in an all-round way, perfect the ability of minority leaders, and pay more attention to the researches for conditions of society.With the continuous improvement of the marketing economic institution and the carrying—out of Western China Development, many factors that still affect national unity.
