Research On Macao External Trade Statistics

Macao is a typical export-oriented economic island entity. Due to its deficiency of natural resources and limited variety of industrial products, so that no matter in the daily consumption goods of residents to the capital goods for industry, both rely on overseas supplies. Concurrently, domestic industrial products also cannot be totally absorbed by internal demands. As a result, exchanging goods is inevitable in Macao. Based upon this factor, since the 16th century, international merchandise trade has been closely relating with Macao's quality change and living standard of population, speed of economic and social development and other related fields.Due to the fact that international merchandise trade determines its decisive role in the Macao's economic and social development, it is indispensable to possess a set of effective and efficient statistic system to reflect her overseas trade situation. This thesis is targeted on the Macao's official external trade statistic system as a major research object. The main contents are:(1) Review the development of Macao's official external trade statistic department;(2) Address briefly the basic issues of external trade statistic system adopted in Macao, including: objective, contents, coverage, time of recording, questionnaire, statistic indicators, organization, methodology of data collection, etc;(3) By comparing with the suggestions of international merchandise trade statistics presented by the United Nations, the methodology adopted by Mainland China and Hong Kong, to study thoroughly the methodology and program using for Macao's external trade statistics, as well as to figure out her points of superiority and weakness;(4) Apply academic researching methods in the study of compiling procedure of Macao's external trade indexes;(5) Give advices for improving the Macao's official external trade statistic system.
