With China's joining into the WTO, Chinese petroleum business has entered into domestic and international markets in full scale. A major subject facing petroleum business is how to adapt itself to the markets so as to accrue best achievements and secure maximum profits. Based on the general rule of oil & gas development, the article puts forward economic output concept and sets up a complete technical and economic limits used to ruler whether petroleum output is economic output. This concept provides a scientific method to realize output profitability in hydrocarbon production. It is of practical significance and theoretical value for petroleum business to adapt itself to the markets and achieve maximum profit. The article, based on different characteristics and inherent rule in different period of hydrocarbon production, comprehensively utilizing advanced reservoir exploitation technology, reservoir evaluation technique and economic evaluation theory for modern oilfield development, by integrating dynamic method with static one, makes a study on technical and economic limit for onshore oilfield development, thus setting up a complete technical and economic limit system. The system includes economic output calculation method for newly exploited oilfield, economic output calculation method for single well, economic output calculation method for the whole oilfield, economic output calculation method for single well in secondarily invested old oilfield, economic output calculation method for adjusting well, economic output calculation method for oil well stimulation approaches, economic output calculation method for single well in highly water-flooded period of oilfield development.During research work, these theory and methods are applied in oilfield production and good economic result is achieved, thus proving them useful and valid. The article also presents suggestions as to reduce each economic limit value for the purpose of increasing economic output.
