With the deepen reform on the electric power system, and the increasing emphasis on the implementation of the States' policy on energy and on environment protection, the business pattern for the electric power industry and the management for the power generating company have been changed greatly. These have brought more challenges than opportunities to the power generating company. The advisable way for these companies is to be more conscious of the competition and crisis facing them, to take on every possible measures and strategy to cope with the increasing fierce competition, because this is a key issue of strategy related to the survival and development of the power generating enterprises.Shantou Electric Power Co., Ltd. is the first company in Shantou who issue stock in the Shenzhen Security market. This regional enterprise mainly supply electric power and steam to the customers. It has enjoyed more advantage of industry policy than other firms that supply electric power only. The problem is in the past few years, because of the wrong positioning in the market, lack of long-term strategic plan, restriction from some other factors, failure to develop the business by seizing opportunities of development, the company has seen decrease of the profit and is facing a critical situation of survival and development. To escape from this embarrassed situation, the company should reset the way for future development, enhance the management, to find a right position in the marketand a proper direction for development. So, to frame a long-term development strategy is very important to Shantou Electric power Co., Ltd.This essay will analyze the history and the present status of Shantou Electric power Co., Ltd., and its external and internal environment. Using the theory and technique of Enterprise Strategy Management, and the SWOT methods, the author will try to help the company set up the strategy for development for the next 5 years.This essay will be divided into 6 chapters. Chapter 1 is the Preface, the author will show the background, target and method of the investigation, and give a rough idea on the theory of Strategy Management. In Chapter 2 the author will introduce the history and present situation of Shantou Electric power Co., Ltd., try to indicate the environment and the existed problems. Analysis on the external environment of the company will be made in Chapter 3, including the China's policy on energy and environment protection, status and development trend of the electric power industry, competition structure of the industry. All these will help us to see the opportunity and threat facing the company, and choose what the company shall do in the future. In-depth analysis of the internal environment of the company will be included in Chapter 4, including analysis on the resources and capacity of the company, which will help the company to find out its strength and weakness and see what it shall do. In Chapter 5 the author will analyze and summarize the strategic factors of the company, shape the SWOT situation for the company. Using the TOWS Matrix, the author will try to set up the development strategy that is suitable to the company's internal and external environment. Summary of the this essay will come into Chapter 6, including the main conclusion, shortage of this essay and the topics that are needed to be researched.
