The Effect On The Industry Structure And Efficiency Of Jiangsu Province Manufacture Induced By FDI

It is to analyze the effect on industrial structure and efficiency of Jiangsu Province manufacture induced by FDI from the angle of optimizing the industrial structure, using positive research. After comparing various kinds of research approaches about industrial structure and efficiency, the criterion from "Industrial Development Report 2002/2003" provided by United Nations Industrial Development Organization is drawn. Manufacture is divided into four kinds, resource-based manufactures, low-tech manufactures, medium-tech manufactures, high-tech manufactures. For the feasibility of criterion, the industry classification of " International Standard Industry Classify 2" (ISIC2 ) is translated into the industry classification of " Trade Classification and Code of National Economy ". ; And according to the due efficiency characteristic in the course of optimizing the industrial structure, I structure the index system of efficiency from these three angles: the content of knowledge and technology, growth level and economy return. With the positive research, it is found that the shares of FDI in resource-based manufactures, low-tech manufactures, medium-tech manufactures, high-tech manufactures were both improved; especially the share of FDI in high-tech manufactures increased fastest. But FDI did not greatly optimize the industrial structure of Jiangsu Province manufacture directly. The impact of FDI on labor productivity and capital productivity was not obvious. Compared with its scale, the value-added created by FDI was on the low side. The technology transfer and diffusion effect, and the forward-relating and afterward-relating effect of FDI were very small. But the demonstration effect of FDI and the competition effect of FDI were great. These results give some lessons for the policy of FDI in Jiangsu province.
