Objective To study the expression of Glial fibrillary acidic protein and Heat shock protein 70 after different time of cerebral ischemia, and they can be used for estimating the time of cerebral ischemia in forensic medicine aspect. Methods Wister Rats were killed at 10,30min,1,3,6,12,24 ,48h respectively after cerebral ischemia .The expression of GFAP and HSP70 in the cerebral was detected by immunohistochemical and results were assessed by image analysis system and statistic analysis. Results (1)The neurons in hippocampus edemaed and necrosised after 3h cerebral ischemia,pyramidal cells had injuried. At the time of 48h, most of pyramidal cells had necrosised, the nucleolus had karyolysised and karyorrhexised. (2) The expression of GFAP appeared in the natural ones, but not evidence. It increased gradually going with the time of cerebral ischemia, The expression of GFAP had become in evidence from 6h to 48h.The expression was stronger in the experimental groups than the previous one (p<0.05) at 6h; but significantly stronger than previous one after 6h (p<0.01). (3) The expression of HSP70 appeared since 10min, but not evidence. It increased gradually going with the time of cerebral ischemia. The expression of HSP70 had become in evidence from 6h to 48h. The expression was stronger in the experimental groups than the previous one (p<0.05) from 6 to 12 h; but significantly stronger than previous one after 12h (p<0.01). Conclusion The regular expression of GFAP and HSP70 is a useful target for estimating the time of cerebral ischemia.
