The term "the advantage of backwardness" in economic field can be defined as the special favorable conditions caused by the economic backwardness of late-developing countries or regions. For example, late-developing countries may gain the necessary reference from the industrialization and marketization of the developed countries, such as, development strategy, funds accumulation, human resource management, technique progressing, foreign trade development, advanced management experience and even the whole economic development model, etc. By learning, late-developing countries can strengthen their ability of judging, selecting and creating during the economic development process. It may avoid detours and shorten the time of trial and error, thus enabling the late-comers to achieve more with less cost.At the end of 19th century and the beginning of 20th century, it took more than 100 years for the United States to catch up with and exceed England. And now she has become the strongest nation in the world. After the World War Ⅱ, the economy of Japan began to flourish and it spent more than 40 years to catch up with the U.S.A.. Since the 1960s, Asia "four small dragons" spent more than 30 years to chase the Western European countries, etc. All these facts make us believe that the late-developing countries can make use of the advantage of backwardness to realize the target of chasing and transcendence. The text of this paper is divided into four chapters. Chapter one introduces the Advantage of Backwardness. Section one in chapter one introduces the advancement of theory of the advantage of backwardness. As a unique theory discussing how late-developing countries manage to chase developed countries, theory of the Advantage of Backwardness has been influenced by the advantage theories of classic economics. Theory of Absolute Advantage and Theory of Comparative Cost by Adam Smith and David Ricardo are the origins of this theory. The representative elaboration about the advantage of backwardness are made by M.J.Levi and Alexander Gerschenkron. Section two introduces the concrete performance of the advantage of backwardness in the economic field. It primarily contains the following 5 aspects: The advantage of draw lessons from the developed countries; The advantage of make use of the foreign capitals; The advantage of introducing foreign technology and equipment; The advantage of using the chance of developed countries' industry transformation to reasonably construct the developing countries' industry; Make use of the reflux advantage of talented person. The advantage of backwardness provides numerous benefits to the developing countries' modernization constructions. On the basis of this developing platform, the developing countries should cultivate the inside vitality further. When the inside vitality arrives at certain level, the stride-across development will be realized. The last section in this chapter analyzes the necessity and possibility for the developing countries to make use of the advantage of backwardness. The economic globalization increases the economic gap among countries in the world. The developing countries will fall behind forever if they develop their economy according to the traditional economic development mode as usual. Countries that fall behind others are sure to be eliminated during the competition. If they want to catch up with developed countries, they must quicken the speed of economic growth. Therefore, make use of the advantage of backwardness naturally becomes the primary strategy for developing countries to develop their economy under the economic globalization. To avoid falling behind others in the new competition, the possible way is to realize economic growth by using of the advantage of backwardness. Further more, there are a lot of favorable conditions and support to the developing countries and enable them to make use of the advantage of backwardness, such as the economic globalization, the existence economic unbalance among different countries?...
