What is a real effective organization, how to build an effective organization? These problems catch much attention in management world all the time. But, the existing theories cannot grasp the essence of organizational effectiveness, thus not being able to present very convincing conclusions and methods that can be used by managers. This thesis uses a new method to study organizational effectiveness, and answers such questions as the meaning of organizational effectiveness, organization evaluation and building effective organization etc.This thesis consists of six chapters. The first chapter expounds the background, meaning, objectives and methods of organizational effectiveness study. Then this chapter reviews the existing organizational effectiveness theories. The second chapter discusses the meaning of organizational effectiveness. The third chapter presents shareholder values approach to evaluate an organization's effectiveness, and builds an evaluation criterion system. The fourth chapter answers the problem of how to build an effective organization. The fifth chapter uses the theories of this thesis to analyses an example. In the last chapter, we summarized the conclusions of this thesis.The conclusions and contributions of this thesis mainly consist of three aspects. Firstly, what's the meaning of organizational effectiveness? This paper says organizational effectiveness is an ability of an organization that can bring it durable success; this ability exhibits itself in defining proper missions and goals for the organization, and realizing them effectively. Secondly, how to evaluate an organization's effectiveness? There are many problems with the existing theories about this question. So this paper presents an evaluation method based on shareholder value- shareholder values approach, and then builds an evaluation criterion system. Thirdly, how to build an effective organization? This paper analyzes the factors that can influence organizational effectiveness, and presents a guiding framework based on management process. When you try to build an effective organization it can give you many guides.Organizational effectiveness is an important field that worthy of studying. With external environment becoming more and more perplexing, many corporations will realize the importance of organizational effectiveness. The corporation that regards organizational effectiveness as a key competence and manages it effectively will win great competitive advantage.
