With the development of the reform of electricity market, the participation of hydropower has been attracting more and more attention. The Research of bidding strategy for hydropower plants has become one of the hottest issues in the research of electricity market. In the electricity market a hydropower plant is supposed to dispatch its water discharge within the whole scheduling time horizon and to convert these information to its bidding strategy so as to maximize its generation profits.Firstly, the definition, characteristic, construction type, operation mode and transaction mode are introduced at the beginning. Further, based on the advantages of hydropower and current operation mode of hydropower, the necessity of hydropower's participation in the competition of electricity market is emphasized and the research content of this thesis is introduced briefly. In addition, a review is presented on the research achievements of bidding theory and four methodologies are introduced in detail: clear price based methodology, rival estimation based methodology, game theory and conjectural variation, which form the basis for the bidding of hydropower. Then a forecasted price based hydropower bidding methodology is put forward. It describes the bidding problem as a problem of maximizing the income expectation of power sale, and then a bidding model, including both constant water head and variable head models, for hydropower plant is established to coordinate the water usage in various period and the relationship between water usage and bidding. Different models are provided with corresponding solution algorithm. On the premise of satisfying the constraint of water availability, the bidding strategy is extended based on the criterion of equating the value of each unit of water/energy, so that this model can achieve the optimal operation of hydropower plant in the formation of generation commitment-price. A concrete computing case is presented to test the mode, verifying the plausibility of the methodology and leading to useful conclusion, which is of directional significance.Finally, the possible problems and directions for further research are pointed out.
