Supply Chain Models Based On Auto-ID Technologies

This paper selects two product categories -- pharmacon and iatrical equipment as the respective samples of functional products and innovative products, analyzes the operating characters, problems and reasons of the supply chains for the two product categories; and tries to solve the operating problems of supply chain by constructing two new supply chain models based on Auto-ID technologies: new efficient supply chain model based Auto-ID for pharmacons and new responsive supply chain model based Auto-ID for iatrical equipment. The operating problems of the current supply chain include: the high level of inventory, the long time for product to go trough the supply chain, the slow reaction to change of market, not matching between supply chain and product character, bull-whip effect, the low level of collaboration between supply chain members, and so on. These problems interplay, and display different phenomenon on the two kinds of supply chain.How are these problems solved in the new supply chain models by Auto-ID technologies? This is explained from the viewpoints of information visibility, product visibility, and the matching of information stream and material stream. It is also explored how plan, purchase, manufacture, logistics and service in the new supply chain model are affected by Auto-ID technologies.The contents of this paper include three main parts, as follows: The brief introduction of Auto-ID technologies, including RFID, physical network, and intelligent product; The operating problems of the current supply chain for pharmacons and iatrical equipments; The new supply chain model based Auto-ID for the two product categories and the effect of Auto-ID at plan, purchase, manufacture, logistics and service in the new supply chain model. In addition, this paper also discusses briefly the feasibilities of the new supply chain model and the possible benefits of the new model for pharmacon supervision.The object of this paper is to provide new ideas and methods of supply chain management based on the new information technologies for enterprises and governments. We hope that the pharmaceuticals enterprises of our country can promote the competitive power and the position in international supply chain with the development of technology and globalization, by studying and researching the Auto-ID technologies more deeply. We also hope that we can implement an more efficient way of pharmacon supervision with lower cost to ensure the safety of the people's life and health.
