Furfural (the scientific name is furan formaldehyde) is an important organic chemicalmaterial that cannot be synthesized by petrochemical material but produced by scraps of plantfibers until now. It can be used widely in the callings of foundry, medicament, chemicalindustry, pesticide, petroleum, synthetic resin, and foodstuff. Furfural is of high cost, but atthe same time, it has many advantages. It is a widely used material, which is greatlydemanded in the international market and is of high profit. It is one of the important chemicalproducts in exporting and making profit in our country. The quality of our products is of theinternational advanced level and the trade quantity ranks the second all over the world. It is aproject of great potential, which can gain the largest profit with the least investment. Jilin Province is famous for its advantaged golden corn belt. There are almost 2,000,000hectares planting areas throughout the whole province and the total output of corns is16,000,000 tons every year, which provides 3,000,000 tons corn cores. The corn cores are theraw and processed materials of producing furfural and they provide abundant materials forthe development of furfural industry. Until now, 46 furfural factories have already beenfounded in Jilin Province and the annual output is more tan 350,000,000 tons. As for Jilinprovince, furfural is an important product for constructing the ecological and agriculturalprovince, activating the rural economics, solving the problem of remainders of labor forceand prospering the northeast industry base. However, furfural industry belongs to the serious pollution industries. And the mostserious one is water pollution. Because of the severe pollution, many developed countriesstopped producing furfural after WWⅡ. The main contaminants in the waste water areCODcr,NH3-N,furfural and acetic acid, and all of them are with high concentration. Furfuralindustry is a key managing industry in our country too. Therefore, this thesis focuses on the detailed introduction of furfural industry and itsinfluence on the environment at first, and also the probability and feasibility of developmentconcerning the furfural industry in Jilin province is analyzed. Then, according to the theoriesof possible continual development, industrial ecology and circulating economics, throughfield survey and positive investigation, we choose three representative areas — the westernpart, the central part and the southern part of golden corn belt in Jilin province andrespectively we also choose 3 furfural projects of different measures to prevent pollution forinvestigating. We compare the angles of producing techniques, project outline, prevention ofpollution, effect on ecological environment and the damage and profit of environmentaleconomics, and we analyze all the projects from the advantages and disadvantages of sitechoosing and the measures of preventing pollution. Moreover, the changes of ecosystem andthe effects on vegetation coverage, soil environment, soil and water loss, and landscape isanalyzed too. Besides, because of the different geological features of different areas, weprovide the solving methods of preventing pollution. Its aim is to follow the theories ofindustrial ecology and circulating economics and realize the possible continual development.In addition, measures and advice are provided here — support actively, choose sitereasonably, improve the level of techniques, enhance the management of environment andmake decisions scientifically. According to different natural status of different areas in Jilin province, we analyze thepossible effect on environment because of the furfural project for the first time, which is veryimportant for the future investigation of the development of furfural project construction.Furthermore, this thesis provides a comprehensive and objective evaluation on thedevelopment of furfural industry in Jilin province and the measures and advice are putforward here too, which is of great value for the decision-makers to offer solving methods.
