Mao Zedong's View of People is a research topic of great significance. The current academic research primarily focused on the content, meaning, origin of the theory, its practical basis its major contribution and so on. The limitations of Mao Zedong's View of People however, is relatively mentioned not very often. This essay mainly uses documents and historical method to reflect on Mao Zedong's View of People. The principal purpose of this so-called reflective research is not to evaluate, or even to criticize and deny Mao Zedong. The reason is that in China, Mao Zedong and Mao Zedong Thought shouldn't be understood as "one person" and "the thought of one person". He is a representative and a symbol of the Chinese people and the Chinese nation. In fact, the reflection should be the Chinese nation's self-reflection and every Chinese person's self-reflection. While the principle contribution of Mao Zedong must be affirmed, the major purpose of this reflection is to make clear that in theory and practice, what are the wrong ideas in Mao Zedong's View of People, and where are these wrong ideas come from, what inspirations we should get from it to better inherit and develop Mao Zedong's View of People.Mao Zedong's View of People is of great historical ignificance, which is mainly reflected in: clearly put forward the the basic point of view in historical materialism that masses are the creators of history, saying that "the people, only people, are the driving force of world history"; firmly adhering to the fundamental position "serving the people wholeheartedly" ; creatively summing up the the mass line "from the masses, to the masses", which is conform to Marxist epistemology; expositing scientifically the people's democratic dictatorship. At the same time, in the theory and practice of Mao Zedong's View of People, there are some wrong ideas in in how to understand the main role of the people and bring it into full play and in how to protect the people's democratic rights.He had confused opinions in distinguishing who are the enemies and who are the people, still regarding the intellectuals in socialist period as bourgeois intellectuals, thinking that in the Party and government organizations large number of "capitalist roader" are still in the presence.As to the importance of the people, he exaggerated infinity of people's creativity and ignored its constraints; he regarded organizing a mass movement as a single form of bring the masses into full play, so that the power of the people was not put into proper use. His ideas shook on the issue of the relationship between the leader and the masses and he put forward the so-called "right personality cult", thus encouraging the spread and development of the personality cult. On the issue of the relationship between the individual and the collective, he emphasized unilaterally on the importance of the collective. On the issue of the ideal goal of social and of human development, he the emphasized on "politics in command", pursuing the equality of everyone and suppressing the legitimate material needs and the initiative of individuals. On the issue of the realization of people's democracy, he neglected system construction, so that people's democracy cannot be protected effectively. The wrong ideas above are caused by various reasons.Seen from the objective side, the newly-founded China faced United States-led Western countries implementation of long-term isolation, siege, blockade and embargo policy. China is forced to be in a state of isolation. In the late 1950s, Sino-Soviet relations began to break, which set the development of china in a more difficult environment. Domestically, the new China had emerged from the extreme economic and cultural backwardness of the semi-feudal society. Old concepts such as egalitarian, patriarchal system, and cult of personality were still deeply rooted in people's minds.Communist Party of China is at war for a long time, so that we are extremely deficient in peace-building experience.Facing a poor and weak China, facing the international isolation, blockade, and discrimination, Mao hopes to make China stronger as soon as possible by effectively using the power of people. Therefore, the role of people had been exaggerated. The lack of construction experience made it natural to follow the successful practices in times of war, relying on mass movement. Complex international environment and domestic condition are the major objective cause of Mao Zedong's View of People.Mao's misunderstandings on Marxist class struggle, communism, initiative, "bourgeois rights" and other theoretical perspectives combined with his characteristics such as idealism , romanticism, advocating the struggle and so on are all important effecting factors which make the wrong ideas occur.Through analysis above, we may safely draw the main conclusion that Mao Zedong's View of People needs to be inherited and upgraded. We should continue to insist scientific point of view that masses are the creator of history, continue to uphold the value stand of serving the people wholeheartedly, continue to uphold the correct methods of leadership and working methods of the people. Meanwhile, we should develop what is useful and discard what is not in Mao Zedong's View of People, valueing the initiative of the masses and obeying objective law should be integrated, comprehensive development of society and comprehensive development of man should be integrated, system construction should be reinforced, and the guarantee of the people's democracy should really be accomplished. Only in this way can we make Chinese people live a happier and a more dignified life.
