On Deng Xiaoping's Views Of America

There are four parts in this thesis. Mr. Deng Xiaoping's views of America are discussed in three different historical stages. It is hoped that inspirations can be gained by observing and analyzing Mr. Deng's views of America. Firstly, Mr. Deng's views of America are pointed out and defined in the introduction.Deng Xiaoping's views of America of the 1970's and early 1980's are represented in the first part. Mr. Deng came back for the second time in 1973. He participated in talks with America repeatedly. From some extend, he also involved in making policies to the USA and putting them into effect. By doing all this, he gained certain experience in policies to the USA. During that time, the Three Worlds Theory of Mao Zedong was carried forward by Mr. Deng. He also supported the international tactic of fighting against the Soviet Union with America. The Sino-US ties were promoted to a new level after Mr. Deng came back for the third time. Then formal diplomatic relations were established by the two countries. The Sino-US ties were normalized. Mr. Deng became the first Chinese leader who visited the USA after the PRC was established. It is expected that basic intentions and dominant ideas of views of America of Deng Xiaoping can be possessed by collecting events of that time in the first part.Deng Xiaoping's views of America of the early 1980's to the end of the 1980's are represented in the second part. The US-Soviet relations were changed in the 1980's. The threat to China form the Soviet Union declined gradually. Strategic requests of the USA were reduced. Deng Xiaoping acknowledged that peace and development are the themes of our times. The One-Line Strategy was changed. From some extend, China distanced itself from America. It is expected that basic intentions and dominant ideas of views of America of Deng Xiaoping can be interpreted by analyzing conflicts and disputes of China and America in the this part.Deng Xiaoping's views of America of the end of the 1980's to the early of the 1990's are represented in the third part. Russian disintegration took place during that time. The International strategic pattern was changed greatly. The US-Soviet hegemony ended up. The situations both international and domestic were severe. Mr. Deng focused on dealing with the USA. Deng Xiaoping was rational. Numerous policies which were practical and useful were made under the leadership of him. That brought new energy and vigor to the Sino-US relations.In the fourth part, it is focused on how Mr. Deng valued America and his ways and principles of dealing with and maintaining the relations between US and China. With the international political multi-polarization and economic globalization in the 21st century, there are a series of conflicts and accordance between China and America due to different social systems and ideologies and cultures. It is expected that lessons can be drawn by collecting Deng Xiaoping's views of America and reviewing the Sino-US relations of the 20th century.
