Globalization, being one of most remarkable features of current society, is characterized by capital's pursuit for maximized interests all over the world, the springing up of various regiona or global political or economic organizations and more and more migrating people around the world. It facilitates the communication between different cultures, thus providing access for people to acquire deeper understanding about the world. In this way, people's knowledge about science and technology, the sense of being independent and critical can be enhanced. Meanwhile, the lifestyle, ethnic communities, religious beliefs and the views of the world is inclined to be more and more diversified. All of these changes challenge the base of commonly identified nation or race and cohesive force of nationalism. The constitutional patriotism derives from globalization and changes it produces. Although constitutional patriotism is not put forward by Jiirgen Habermas, it is famous for his expounding about this theory. It refers to maintaining the unity of country by means of people's national identity derived from their identifying with the constitution through depending on and integrating race, culture, language and tradition. The constitutional patriotism has been developed into a dilemma as other theories:its theoretical basis has been doubted. The procedure is of formalism, the law is of procedurism, the common consensus of language is hardly achieved and the identity is the result of negotiation. As one element of integrated target, nationalism is constructive in globalization in which the interests is struggled and hegemony pervades politics. In this sense, the constitutional patriotism is not a panacea to negative influence of globalization. This thesis aims to study the internal and external confines of constitutional patriotism, thus assisting people to acquire the essence of this theory. Therefore, people can surmount its confines and develop its connotation in the process of using this theory, facing the diversified world with optimistic, vigorous and critical attitudes. In this way, constitutional patriotism can play a more and more important role in constituting modern society collective identity.
