| Malaysia has been a model of political stability in Southeast Asia, however, the "308 Election" in 2008 has changed this situation. On 8th March,2008,congressional elections were held and the ruling National Front which always has been occupied an absolute majority suffered an unprecedented defeat. The National Front kept the status, but they lost not only 2/3 majority seats of the Congress, but also the ruling party in five states, and they missed the by-election opportunities again and again after the election defeat. Thence many people think that the National Front must be depressed and there will be a regime change in Malaysia soon. However the National Front has gradually reversed the situation and then they won several by-election, thus more and more people support them. This paper is divided into three parts. The first part is about the Malaysia Council before the"308 Election", and I will point out that because the National Front ruled the country a long time, it is very difficult to change their opposition; In the second part, I will analysis the "308 Election "in order to explore the reasons why the National Front lost their position and the reasons why the opposition won the victory; the third part is about the political development after "308 Election",I will analysis the reason why the National Front in the election to reverse their situation gradually and explore the Malaysia's political development. This paper argues that after "308 Election", Malaysia's politics entered a new phase and because of the internal adjustment and economic reform to promote ethnic harmony, the National Front still has strong political capital relatively. At the same time, the NLD lack of experience in governance, and lack of trust between each other, thus it is difficult for them to replace the National Front's position. |
