The Social Role Of Intellectual And The Power Of Discourse

In this article, I try to find a new perspective to analyze the definition of intellectual, that is dividing the intellectual into two parts by the space where they mainly devote their selves (one is the public space; the other is the cultural filed or the discipline internal.) the relationship between the power of discourse and the social role sets exist in the two space. According to the change of the power of discourse, the role sets can change; different role set can be fabricated by different power. On the contrary, different power can be influenced by different social role set. I chose the social event of Dreyfus, because it is including these entire four intellectual that I mentioned above. It reveals the changes of the internal in the role and the changes among the different role sets. But to me, the most interesting role is the public intellectual, in this movement this role mainly represented by drefusarde, and I will utilize the relation between the lingual power ---- and the role set of intellectual to analyze the fate of drefusarde. According to that, we can compare with the role of intellectual today and find what the intellectual today lose.Concretely speaking, there are two parts that I want to explain for the theory (included in the cultural field and in the public sphere). One is how the role set playing have some influence to their power of discourse in the social movement,it can be mainly divided into two aspects:the origin of this power and the amount of this power(cultural capital in the symbols and the practices)and the role sets of intellectual (the social capital:the authority and the priority)in the discipline internal; the amount of this power is decided by the conflict between the power of the knowledge and the power of the state and the economy in the marketing;the other is the effect of the power of discourse in making the role-playing of the intellectuals by the social movement which can be analyzed from two perspectives:the public intellectual and the intellectual in cultural field. Because it is referred to the conflict and the combination with the state power and the force of economy, it makes the role of public intellectual disappeared or immortal.
