Analysis On American Climate Diplomacy (2001-2010)

Climate change has became the largest threat and challenge in 21st century. With the trends of the globalization, the climate change problem happens not only in environmental field, but also in economic, political, security, cultural and social fields, which has attracted worldwide attention and has been encored in international political arena. The only solution is bringing climate change into global governance.The United States, as the world's only superpower, who releases the most greenhouse gases, plays an important role in global climate governance. But the attitude of United States in dealing with global climate change was tepid. Especially the Bush administration, Who didn't pay attention to climate change and pursued conservative foreign policy. But the Obama administration changed old climate foreign policy. He would solve the problem of climate change and energy issues, as make economic progress as well, and formed a new set of climate diplomacy system, which attracted the whole world's attention.This paper contains three chapters, the first chapter defines the climate diplomacy, according to the attribute of climate change. The next two chapters contain the main point of the paper, which analyze the climate diplomacy of American government from 2001-2010 in chronological order. The author explains the reasons why the American climate diplomacy is shifted from the aspect of its ideology, foreign policy and diplomatic practice.
