Discussion On The Evolution Of International Commercial Practices From The View Of Incoterms 2010

International trade terms are important international commercial practices. They appeared with the large-scale trade of goods worldwide and they were the historic outcome of global trade. With the development and innovation of international trade practices, trade terms have not only played an important role in the standardization of international sales of goods, but also made many transformations in types, names and content. New trade terms are taking shape and old ones are abandoned. INCOTERMS, drafted by the International Chamber of Commerce in 1936, made systematic and comprehensive explanation and standardization of trade terms, and frequently amended by ICC with the needs of international trade development. To adjust to the new change of global economic development and trade environment, INCOTERMS has a new amendment by the ICC and the latest version INCOTERMS 2010 is promulgated. INCOTERMS 2010 reduces the types of trade terms, mainly reflected in the diversification of group D; in classification, trade terms are classified by the modes of transport instead of the duties of the seller; in FOB, it cancels the traditional concept of "ship rail", and changes the transfer rules of risks of goods; INCOTERMS is for the use of domestic and international trade terms, scope expanded; furthermore, INCOTERMS raises the concept of "terminal handling charges" and "string sales", so as to solve the complicated problems in practice.The original intention and objective of this article is to make discussions on the evolution of international practices from the view of INCOTERMS 2010 and its previous versions. The emerging and development of international practices is in an orderly and gradual way. It has hundreds of years of history, and developed most rapidly since the twentieth century with the technology advance and economic growth, as well as global economic integration and trade group development. Trade terms are increasing both in types and adjustment rage, from haphazard to orderly. The evolution of international commercial practices reflects the integration of international trade rules. With the development of economic development and technology progress, international commercial practices are becoming mature and perfect.
