A Study Of Causes For The CCP'S Successful Exploration In Socialist Construction Around The Eighth National Congress Of The CCP And What IT Reveals To Us

Since the Third Plenary Session of the Eleventh Central Committee(十 一届三中全会), the study of the CCP's exploration in socialist construction around the Eighth National Congress of the CCP(中共八大)has become a much-discussed issue in the Chinese Communist Party history studies. So far, many achievements have been obtained with regard to this issue. Most of scholars believe that this exploration has laid a foundation for the socialism theory with Chinese characteristics. However, the causes for the successful exploration still have not been aroused sufficient attention. As we are still on the way to exploring the road to socialism with Chinese characteristics, we need to learn a lesson from the past. Therefore, it is of important theoretical and practical value to study the issue from a new perspective.This paper is divided into five parts. The first part briefly reviews when, why and how the Party's first generation collective leadership advocates exploring an appropriate road to promote socialist construction. The second part introduces the main achievements of this exploration from economic, political and cultural aspects. The third part analyzes the significance of this exploration from the history of socialist development both abroad and at home. The fourth part probes the causes for this successful exploration. These causes involve: the Party has become experienced; the CCP's institution of democracy was well established and practiced; the Party's first generation of collective leadership were well qualified for their jobs; the collective leadership had a vision of taking the international affairs into consideration when addressing various issues.The last part summarizes what this successful exploration reveals to us. Yet despite the achievements made by the CCP, much work remains to be done.
