Contemporary International Terrorism is one of the most serious global crisis since the end of the Cold War, which threatens people's lives as well as property all around the world and jeopardizes public order. International political scholars and the public pay more attention to it especially after 9.11, 2001. But so far there is still no consistent conception on what terrorism really means. People know nothing systematically about its causes, the countermeasures on how to fight terrorism effectively. This thesis systematically analyzes definitions of terrorism, its basic characteristics, the theoretical explanations, the main causes, its essence, the measures and lessons of anti-terrorism. The author also suggests the basic stands on the issue of terrorism and countermeasures to combat terrorism. The thesis includes the Preface and 3 Chapters. The Abstract reads as follows: The Preface states the research purposes, international relative researches status and existing issues and major research approaches. Chapter One introduces many different definitions of terrorism, examines the numerous concepts to find that most people define terrorism with violence, political purpose, extreme fear and premeditation. But the Terrorism is not a doctrine, theory or a system of principles. It means only action, process or practice. After discussing the characteristics and its historic change, the author defines terrorism as "a premeditative use of violence to threaten people for political purpose."Contemporary International Terrorism is very different from the historical terrorism of much aspect, such as its goals, instrument, organization and so on. It is a serious global crisis arose from the unfair international system and the cause of the ultraism after the end of the Cold War.
