The Implication Of Forest Certification On Forest Products Trade

Forest certification, as a market based instrument for promoting sustainable forest management, began in 1990's. Forest certification affects on the forest management by influencing the forest products trade through market mechanism. In resent years, as the deterioration of the ecological environment and the reinforcement of the public concern on environmental protection, the customers'increasing care about environmental protection leads to more requirements on environment-friendly products, and thus the certificated timber and other forest products are becoming more and more popular with them. Moreover, the certificated forest products can help avoid trade barriers made for the sake of the environmental protection and they are helpful for the forest industrial enterprises to enter the abroad market. Recently, especially as the rapid growth of the export China's wood-based furniture to the European and American markets where customers highlight the environmental protection, China's export of the forest products have been restricted to different degree. In those countries and regions with high sensitivity on environment protection, the forest products without eco-label are repulsed and ejected to the local market. The present this thesis sets out from the status quo and the developing trend of forest certification and forest products trade, and then provides a systematic analysis on the certificated forest products'appearance and the market status. It also studies the implication of the forest certification on the forest products trade to propose some advice on developing Chinese market of the certificated forest products.
