Study On The Sustainable Forest Management And Certification System In China

Forest is one of the most important resources for human life. But now forest area is getting smaller and smaller because of human's increasingly activities . We chopped down the timber without good planning, which have made the forest resource recession and the ecosystem environment worsen. This condition has drawn a worldly attention, especially after the United Nation Conference on environment and development. Some organizations appealed and promoted the sustainable forest management and certification in order to conserve our forest resource. They encouraged consumers to buy the forest products, which have obtained the forest certification. Since then, the sustainable forest management certification has been adopted in worldly wide.Forest certification is still in a stage of beginning in China. There are not much people who understand this kind of certification. In order to enhance our status in the international forest product trade and to realize the sustainable forest management, we need the forest certification urgently.The purpose of this article is to introduce the forest certification and give some reference for establishing auditing and certification system in China. The context of this paper is three parts. One is to present what is the forest certification. In this part, you can get to know some characters of forest certification and what progress have other countries made in this field. In the second part, the paper mainly state the condition of international trade of forestry product in this years. From that we can draw a conclusion that it is necessary for China to build the forest certification system. The third part is the finally conclusion. There are some advise to our policy makers, such as, establish the criteria and indicator system and the auditing organization, perfecting related policy and supervision system, and encouraging all stakeholders to join in the certification etc. As what the paper said in beginning, it needs a long time for China to building the certification system. We must work harder and do much more for that.
