Currently, in our nation, the social and economic structures are under great transformation. Besides due to the capricious international situations and complicated conflicts, Chinese people's thoughts, concepts, ideology and values are being challenged in various aspects. For the reasons mentioned above, the traditional opinions and methods employed in political and ideological education are becoming more and more unfit for the development of society. Thus one serious subject confronts each one who is either in the theory or the practice of political and ideological education, that is, under new circumstances, how to make our political and ideological education more purpose-oriented and more effective. Political and Ideological education has long been deemed to be an indispensable section of our Party's overall political task, to be the spiritual driving force for the construction of a modern socialist country, to be the ultimate guarantee of the smooth progression of opening up, reform and modernization. Consequently we should be aware that in the new period, it is of profound significance to enhance political and ideological education. For it is capable of providing our Party and the whole masses with assistance in adoption of proper ideal, in cultivation of noble morality, in promotion of political and ideological grade as well as in enhancement of people's cohesion.Based on the research on humanism from different fields, namely, management, capitalist human nature and Marxism macro-history, the paper holds the idea that the human-oriented scientific development put forth by our Party is, in essence, "taking people as the foundation", which coincides with the humanism of Marxism macro-history. In view of the fact, within the sphere of political and ideological education, the subject and object are both persons and the task is to enhance human character, the author advances the notion of taking people as the foundation. People is both the starting point as well as the destination of this cause, therefore people should stand at the center of the political and ideological education and prominence should be given to the overall development of them.Starting from the definition of "people" and "foundation", basing on Marxist historical materialism, the author considers that humanism is a judgment of value, a mode of thought, an affirmation of the critical role human being played in the development of society and history. At the same time, the author indicates that humanism, as a notion, can be applied to every field involving people's activities, but cannot be regarded as the supreme guiding principle. Through the illustrations of both interior and exterior aspects, it indicates that human-oriented political and ideological education is to realize the all-round developmentof the educated by regarding them as the starting point, the principle factor, the goal. Adhering to humanism is to stick to the consistency of people both as means and as destinations, of people's individual and social value, of people's innate and social properties, and of people's existence, development and happiness.This brand-new notion is an amelioration and transcendence of the traditional one considering the contents methods, and mechanism. In the process of the current political and ideological education, the new notion demands reciprocal interaction instead of insipid moralization, active development of the educated instead of passive reply. In addition to the above principle, these are also the requisite for successful realization of the notion—the enhancement of ideological construction, moral construction, psychological construction and the acceleration of the transformation of the mode of thought.The new attitude of human-oriented political and ideological education is a significant subject, whose basic implication, structure and enforcement measures rely on further investigation by these who are studying or practicing political and ideological education in various surroundings. The author, a young politics teacher, has done a lot but not adequate enough research in this field, therefore, faults and inadequacies in this paper are inevitable.
