After Cold War, with the accelerating of the globalization process, the interaction of economy and diplomacy shows itself frequently and tightening. Nowadays, economic diplomacy, which was hold by both countries to quest for maximum of national interests, has become an important means on the political stage of the world . Both countries are located on East Asia with competition of geo-strategies and economic cooperation. So it is a felicity of comparison and relevancy for us to compare economic diplomacies between two countries.In this paper, the author collects data and materials in abundance bearing on the polices and affairs of diplomacy as well as those of foreign trade. Along with combination of feature and cover ,and combination of theory of practice, many methods ,instructed by dialectical materialism, were exerted, such as demonstration , conclusion, classification, demographic and analytical comparison , on the study of the economic diplomacy.The paper is divided into six chapters. Chapter One offers relative basic theories from basic concepts to functions, from forms to behaviors, and history background as a starting pavement. Meanwhile, it defines the gist of economic diplomacy as the combination of policies and acts, the combination of objectives and means. Then it briefly retrospects the creation and development of economic diplomacies separately. From Chapter Two to Chapter Four, the paper makes some analytical comparisons in three differentaspects of application. Chapter Two analyzes the differences of the economic diplomacies of two countries on political level, and demonstrates the different political missions after Cold War. Chapter Three analyzes the differences of the economic diplomacies of two countries on security level, and indicates the different security views: Japan quests for the power of arms control and construction of balance-makeup of East Asia while China constructs regional security regime and promotes unification of country. Chapter Four analyzes the differences of the economic diplomacies of two countries on economic level, and follows that China carries out an economic policy on the basis of the mutual benefit and equality, while Japan exerts economic colonialism. Chapter Five analyzes the differences of the economic diplomacies of two countries on conception level, and probes into four kinds of ideas ,such as traditional culture^ pattern of tactic ideology % goal of national strategy, to dig out the deep thoughts that profoundly influenced economic diplomacy.The Six Chapter is the standpoint, which appraises impersonally through all-round assessing of the economic diplomacy respectively, and put forwards my point of view that not only success and challenges of the economic diplomacy of China but also passive elements and valuable experiments for reference from the economic diplomacy of Japan. Last, it draws a conclusion that failure was above the gains on the exerting of economic diplomacy for Japan, while success was above misplay for China, which may have significant impact on the fulfillment of the Grand Strategy of Peaceful Riseof China.
