Public Diplomacy From 1949 To 1965

At the beginning of the founding of the New China,the Chinese Communist Party and the Chinese government started to devote themselves to the diplomacy.under the influence of international cold war and domestic devastated situation,the new diplomacy did not goes perfectly smooth.For making more friends in the world,improving new China’s international standing and strengthening the new regime, the CCP and the Chinese government tried to build a diplomacy system with Chinese characteristics,which based on the successful experiences both from Chinese history and other nation’s history. In this new diplomacy system, the public diplomacy played a very important role.Specially, public diplomacy contributed a excellent effort on the breaking through of the block from the capitalist countries and building friendship with people all over the world.This thesis include four parts:The first part is introduction.Mainly focus on the topic selection, previous research status, conception distinguish, innovation, material and research method, etc.The second part and the third part is the main body of this thesis.The 1949-1965 time period is divided into two parts, which based on chronological order:1949-1954 and 1955-1965.The second part with the title of the beginning of the public diplomacy of new China is mainly about the fundamental qualities of new China’s public diplomacy, the specific works of foreigner reception during important national holidays and the feedback of those foreigners.The third part with the title of the changing of new China’s public diplomacy is mainly about the international background changing around 1956 and its influence on China’s diplomatic strategy,the specific changing in foreigner reception during big events and the reflections on public diplomacy changing.At the end of each part, the characteristics is analyzed in detail in order to draw a explicit declaration of the practical value of public diplomacy.The last part is conclusion. The achievements, the shortages and the possible guiding significance are analyzed clearly.One of the purpose of studying in history is to learn from the past and absorb its advantages while avoid its disadvantages.This thesis is written to record the history of public diplomacy in the beginning of new China; further more to arose reader’s interests on this rarely discussed hot issue;in the end, bringing contribution to the current public diplomacy development.
