Education starts from the family and it is through enculturation that man becomes the man with his cultural heritage, and enculturation varies according to ethnicity of nationalities or ethnic groups. As enculturation takes place in a constant changing process, there are variations in the setting, modes, purposes and results of it, and the roles of the man in his enculturation varies, too. And it is suggested that the outer environment would have its impacts on enculturation to an extent when there occurs some"break"in the important part of the process, which would lead to some issues worth studying. Therefore, the following are the issues that the present paper intends to explore: what would happen to one's enculturation if the"break"occurs, what impacts that the"break"would have on the process, and what would result in for the man in his real life.The present thesis, reports the results of a comparative study on the issues between the enculturation of the Uygur children of the SOS of Urumqi and the enculturation of the rural Uygur families of Zanggui Town, Pichan County, Hotan Prefecture, Xinjiang, based on the ethnographic data obtained from the author's field work. And the discussion focuses on the following:1) Comparison in the basic conditions for implementation of the enculturation of the Uygur"family"of the Urumqi SOS and the rural Uygur families of Zanggui Town, Pichan;2) Comparison in the structures of the two types of families in the two sites;3) Comparison in the specific implementation of the enculturation of the two types of the families;It is found by the comparisons that there has lacked a natural link between the SOS institutional cultures and the culture of the children due to the restrictions of the institutional factors on the SOS"family".
