Resettlement is a universal problem that many developing countries are facing nowadays. Whether the settlers can adapt to the new life in the area they are settled become the main factor which determines whether the distant relocatioon is successful or not. On the basis of the author's fieldwork and literature studies done by previous researchers and by focusing on a minority emigrant group of the Yantan reservoir from the rocky mountainous area in northwest of Guangxi settled down in southeast coastal area of the region in the early 1990 s, this thesis conducts intensive investigation and analysis to the change of subsistence and difficulties and the solutions in their life, the interaction between the minority culture from the area of origin and the Han Chinese culture in the resettlement area in exploring the cultural adaptation in distant settlement. It argues that the precondition for cultural adaption of migrants in distant resettlement is the living standard equal to or above the original one; the efficiency and effectiveness of government works are the determined factors of cultural adaption of the settlers, in which the collective resettlement is beneficial to the maintaining of original social organization and the inheritance of traditional culture, a key role of cultural adaption in distant relocation. Whether or not the government can communicate and coordinate between the settlers and local residents affects the enculturation of settlers directly. It concludes that the new "homeland" identity of the settlers is an indicator to judge whether or not the distant settlers adapt completely to the new environment and become a part of the local community.
