The British monarchy still exists and the royalty even enjoys relative prosperity in this postmodern society. All these are no accident. They are due to the ideological conservatism which still prospers in Britain and the social characteristics of the postmodern society. The postmodern society takes the flourish of the media and consumption of spiritual products, such as the royals, as its outstanding features. Therefore, the monarchy and the media will inevitably encounter each other. The ultimate purpose of the media is to pursue economic interests through reporting things newsworthy to catch the public's attention. And the royalty happens to be something newsworthy for the reason that their mystery can rivet irresistible interest of the common people. In this way, the media will never let the royalty go. They will report whatever they can get about the royalty. In this paper, the reasons why the media will not let the royalty go and the influences exerted upon the monarchy and royalty by the media will be dealt with in detail.Without doubt, in this postmodern society in which the media flourish, the media are powerful. And in this democratic society, the monarchy has no real political power. Then, can the media determine the future of the monarchy? The answer is no. The reasons will also be illustrated later in this paper. Then, in this media age, in whose hands is the future of the monarchy held? In fact, the future of the monarchy is determined by many factors, but, to a great extent, it is held in the hands of the monarchy and the royalty themselves. Since the social circumstances provide a stage for the monarchy to exist and the royalty to enjoy its relative prosperity, the rest depends on the monarchy and the royalty themselves.
