With the impetus of economic globalization and trade liberalization, the enforcement of tariff barriers and the traditional non-tariff barriers like quotas and licenses are becoming more and more limited. On the other hand, because of the voice of environmental protection and sustainable development, the green trade barrier has emerged as the times demand. The green trade barrier, with its exceptional advantages, outer reasonableness and inner concealment, is in western developed countries' good graces. And it has become a new measure of trade protection. The green trade barrier conforms to the trend of sustainable development. However, it also impedes the development of the global free trade in a way and has great effects on the import and export business of vast numbers of developing countries, our country included. Over the years, the incidents that the goods we has exported to developed countries are rejected and detained and developed countries stop importing have taken place now and then. And most of these incidents are caused by the enforcement of the green trade barrier in importing countries. So in present situation, we must research on the characteristics, forms and the causes of the birth of the green trade barrier, use the experience of other countries' green trade barriers, analyze the relationship between the rules and some agreements of WTO and the green trade barrier and expound the influence of the green trade barrier on our country so that we can advance our ways connected with laws to deal with the green trade barrier. By spanning the green trade barrier, our own green trade barrier can be formed and it will bring about sustainable development of our foreign trade. Eventually, the aspect of mutual benefit between foreign trade and environmental protection will be achieved. Consequently, the research into the green trade barrier has theoretical and realistic significances.
