A Research On The Cultivation Of Democratic Consciousness

Since mid-18^th century, the democracy as a notion of political value has been accepted by most countries in this world. Democratic politics has also become a political form propagandized by defenders of any political system and becomes one of the most important symbols of legalization of politics. However, the real establishment and effective operation of democracy depends on the establishment and formation of its corresponding politics, culture and psychology, democratic consciousness of its citizen, including citizen's democratic consciousness. The China's 5,000 years of civilization does not left too much democratic consciousness, although some traces of democracy does existed. Therefore, it is urgent to view some issues occurred in the process of building of China's modern political civilization from the perspective of democratic consciousness.This thesis first proposes my own definition of democratic consciousness from the perspective of social-psychology and makes an analysis of the characteristics and usefulness from the perspective of social-psychology. The second part analyzes the factors which affect the cultivation of democratic consciousness, mainly in terms of economy, politics and culture. The third part introduces the democratic consciousness in the practice of modern democratic politics, and intensively introduces the two forms of the reach of democratic consensus and the realization of political participation, including political apathy, the kind of special political participation. As far as the change of the mode of citizen's political participation, this thesis attempts to generalize it into the mode from "obedience-rebellion" to "communication-compromise". One of the tasks of the cultivation of China's democratic consciousness is to realize the transition of these two modes in China. The last part analyzes comprehensively the way and mode of cultivation of democratic consciousness and holds that the development of socialist market economy and the consummation of political system are the presupposition; to continue and develop the fruit of political civilization (China and the west) is the guarantee; to take measures to develop the socialist advanced political culture is the specific ways and means.
