As one of the member sate of ASEAN, Malaysia have kept on its political stability since independence. One main reason for the stability is that Malaysian Government make use of the Internal Security Act (ISA) to prevent various challenge from threatening its authority.ISA was passed to deal with the subversive activities of the Communist Party of Malaya (CPM) in 1960s. However, the ISA was usually abused by the ruling group to silence the dissents on the ambiguous definition of the "threaten to the safety". In 1960s and 1970s the ruling group made use of the ISA to broke up the left-wing movement, suppressed Chinese opposition party as well as controlling any complaints to the ruling. With the CPM's activities died out since1980, the existence of ISA could be no longer legally justified. However, in order to maintain the ISA, the ruling group began to construct new cognition on threat and security. Now the ISA has become a tool that was used to eliminate deviationists. The Case study of the ISA of Malaysia provides us a good example on how to use Securitization Theory of Copenhagen school to analyze a state 's political security. Though the conclusion that the construction of one safe cognition on a problem is not a thing that done once and for all but a process that always change according to the situation is drawn from one case study of Malaysian ISA, it can also be applicable to analyze the political security of other states that have laws like the Internal Security Act of Malaysia.
