Objective: To analyze the situation of personality characteristics and psychological health of the adult male offenders serving sentences, and the factors and the relationship between personality and mental health to identify risk factors related crimes. To provide a basis for preventive and corrective criminal acts. Subjects and Methods:1. 420 male offenders serving a prison in Taian City were selected, 374 valid respondents. The response rate was 89. 05%. Ages ranging from 18 to 60, with an average age of 30. 28 ±8. 69, and collect basic information of Prisoners.2. 200 urban residents were selected in Taian city, farmers 186. Both are male, similar in age and the offender sentences, the average age of 30. 11 ± 10. 35 years, as the control group. 338 valid questionnaires, the questionnaire recovery is 87.56%.3. Used to fill EPQ, SCL - 90 questionnaire method to assess personality characteristics and psychological state of criminals.4. Using 12.0 SPSS statistical analysis software to analyze. Results:1. Results of EPQMale offenders serving sentences in contrast with the same age group E, N, P, L. There were significant differences of personality dimensions. Show basic characters: high neuroticism, high quality of spirit, low to cover up.Different age offenders, offenders serving sentences of less than 40 years of age and N, P personality dimension score above 40 - 60 years of age, with increasing age, L dimension scores also increased, the significant differences between age.P dimensions of unmarried personality were higher than those who had history of a marriage, and below in L dimensions, the difference is statistically significant.N dimension of illiteracy is higher than those who have a primary schools, junior middle school education level; P personality dimension of those with primary school education is higher than those with a junior high school and higher education or above; L personality dimensions in junior high school education score below than senior middle school and high school level and above, the difference was significant.The national cadres N personality dimensions below non - state cadres, L dimensions higher than non -state cadres, the difference was significant.Criminals with different serving time, N dimensions of 25 - 60 months imprisonment below the dimensions of less than 12 months imprisonment, jail time of less than 12 months, L dimensions below those over 12 months.The personality differences were not statistically significant of different types of crime, the original terms and the number of crime of adult male prisoners.Personality and the distribution of emotional stability clearly shows that the majority of offenders were dumping introverted personality, the offenders were substantially less emotional stability. The difference is statistically significant. 2. SCL-90 resultsCriminals scored higher than the national norm indicators ( control) . Differences were statistically significant; the overall detection rate is 53. 74% of psychological problems. 44. 12% in the group with psychological problems compared with the norm, reached a very serious (Z >2) level.The unmarried criminals have a higher Factor - compulsive symptom than those married, and also a higher Hostile factor than those divorced or widowed. Difference was statistically significant, no statistically significant difference between the rest of others.Criminals served more than 60 months, the total score, equally positive symptoms, depression, and psychotic factors were higher than those served less than 12 months, the difference is statistically significant.The differences of Age, education level, employment before prison, family income, type of crime, the original terms and the number of crime have no statistically significant to the mental health of criminals.Male offenders serving sentences has a high detect rate in somatization, interpersonal sensitivity, anxiety, hostility, paranoid of the psychological problems or psychological factors, shows these are the major Psychological deviation contents. 3. Related ResearchCriminals of the SCL - 90 somatization, interpersonal sensitivity, depression, terror, paranoia, psychosis, seven other factor was negatively correlated with the E dimension, SCI -90 ten factors and the 10 N, P personality dimensions were positively correlated. Dimensions were negatively correlated with the L, which were highly correlated.Age and N, P Dimensions was negatively correlated with positive correlation dimension L; Marital status and P dimension, obsessive - compulsive symptoms and hostility, the two factors were negatively correlated with positive correlation dimension L; P dimension was negatively correlated with educational level; E dimensions were positively correlated with family income. Already served was positively correlated with the mental factor, a statistically significant correlation.Education, emotional stability, the terrorist factor is to prevent crime, and low to hide the personality traits, somatization, anxiety, three other factor is the risk factor of crimeConclusions: This study showed that adult male prisoners in character had deviations, as follows; dip, high neuroticism, the spirit of high quality, low cover, and mental health obvious anomalies. a higher detection rate in somatization, interpersonal sensitivity, hostility, paranoia and other factors on the psychological problems. Ages and marital status of the prisoners will affect Personality. Inmates serving time on the personality and mental health problems should not be ignored. Education, emotional stability , the terrorist factor is to prevent crime, and low to hide the personality traits, somatization, and anxiety was the risk factors to commit crime. Its important and has the reality meaning to launch Psychological rehabilitation work in adult male prisoners.
