A Probe Into The Structure Of Criminal Personality On The Male Grown Violent Criminals

The rate of violent crime keeps on rising in recent years,and the crime has done great harm to the stability of society and development of economy.So it is not only necessary but also urgent to strengthen the studies on violent crime.As the deep-seated psychological character of violent offenders,criminal personality reflects the essence of criminal activities and opens out the reasons behind these activities.If the traits and structure of criminal personality about male grown violent offenders can be fully and exactly described,prevention for violent crimes and intervention for criminal minds can be supplied with some theoretical evidence.238 violent criminals within the ages 18-50 were selected randomly from a prison in Shanghai and 173 violent offenders with the same age period were randomly chosen trom a prison in Guangxi to be the final participants in this study.And 96 officers in the prison of Guangxi attended this study,too.High-frequency words about personality characters of violent criminals were gained by some information investigation tools,such as "the Survey of Depicted Words for Violent Criminals" and "the Checking List of Personality-Described Words for Violent Criminals".On the base of these words,the researcher designed "the Assessing Questionnaire of Criminal Personality for Male Grown Violent Criminals" by himself,and used statistical tools to test its reliability and validity.Taking advantage of comparing groups,this questionnaire was proved to be suitable for violent offenders.The researcher integrated the results of former studies with the investigational information,and made "the List of Described Words of Personality for Male Grown Violent Criminals",in order to compare it between the offenders and the officers.Furthermore,via the half-structural interviews,the researcher tried to explore the forming mechanism of criminal personality for male grown violent offenders.Using multivariate statistical analysis as a research instrument,this study explored in different directions of common researches on personality,and established two structural models of criminal personality for male grown violent offenders.In the model gained by questionnaire,there were five personality factors,that is,"the mundane type","the dangerous type","the annoying type","the destructive type" and "the alienated type".The model gained by word-list included three axes,that is, "mental power towards inside-outside","cognition,will-emotion,feeling" and "protecting himself-harming others".These two models tried hard to present the panorama of criminal personality for violent offenders in different ways,and the elements and structures of the models can be regarded as one annotation for criminal personality.Although the classifying methods for personality traits in the models were not mature,this research can be viewed as an attempt and exploration in the region of domestic research for criminal personality.
