The Research On Munich Terrorist Attack Affair And American Policy

During the 20th Olympic games held in the city of Munich of the Federal Republic of Germany, the members of terrorist organization of"Black September"in Palestine kidnapped nine Israel sportsmen on 5th, Sep., 1972. Because of the Israel government's unacceptance of the requirements proposed by the terrorists and the unsuccessful rescue by the Federal Republic of Germany, all the hostage were murdered. That was the Munich Terrorist Attack Affair, which shocked the world.Afterwards, America, as an ally of Israel, put forward a series of policies. Through the investigation of American policies, can we further understand the international pattern in the 70s and gain the beneficial experience and lesson.The present thesis consists of three parts: introduction, main body and the conclusion.The first part mainly introduces the subjects, contents and some researches on the current situation concerning the topic conducted by the academic fields both at home and abroad. It also elucidates the purpose and significance of the present research.The main body is composed of three parts. The first part elaborates on the cause of the Munich Terrorist Attack Affair in 1972, which includes the retrospection of the American policies towards the Middle East before the Cold War and during the reign of Nixon. The second part discusses the America's countermeasures towards the Munich Terrorist Attack Affair, which involves the suggestion of the restraint attitude by Israel, strengthening the measures towards the terrorists and the disintegrating policies to the Arabian countries and African allies. The third part concerns the influence of the Munich Terrorist Attack Affair and the analysis of American policies, which consists of the influence of the Munich Terrorist Attack Affair, the features of American countermeasures, some achievements and the limitations.The last part elicits the conclusion by the analysis of the American countermeasures. The countermeasures took by America did not bring the peace of the Middle East or eliminate the terrorism, but bring the political benefits although it had got some achievements, since it avoided the core of the conflict between Arab and Israel--the problem of Palestine. The frustrations confronted by America in the process of the implementation of the policies revealed the new international pattern. America gradually lacked the ability of commanding the allies. More information about the current situation of the Middle East and the problem of Palestine has been disclosed through the present research. Taking the subtle relationship between America and Arabian countries and the current terrorism into consideration, China, during the Olympic games in 2008, should strengthen the safety measures and take the lessons of Munich Olympic games.
