The issue of intellectuals is a special and complex problem in the course of China's modernization.Studying the problem seriously is not only the objective need for solving it properly,but also of momentous current significance to promote China's modernization.After the founding of PRC, the Communist Party of China's policies toward intellectuals came through a zigzag process:from 1949 to 1956,the Party put forward the policy of"unity, education, reform"for-revolution intellectual and positively practiced the policy from the aspect of operations arranging,political terms of employment,thought reform etc; from 1956 to the first half of 1957, the Party, on the basis of scientific assessment of the status quo of intellectuals, made the scientific thesis "intellectuals have been part of the working class",and implement the principle "let a hundred flowers blossom and a hundred schools of thought contend"; From 1957 second half year to 1962, because the Party appeared the deviation to intellectual's estimate, Party's policy toward intellectual appeared the dislocation.Although the Party has carried on the adjustment in 1962 to the intellectual policy, but only appears briefly, has not had the substantive influence. from 1962 to 1976,the Party's estimation and policy about intellectual appeared seriously mistakes,then came to extreme during"Cultural Revolution",resulted the serious lapse of intellectual working; from 1976 to now,through brings order out of chaos,the Party's policy toward intellectuals try back Marxist track ,the Party's policies toward intellectuals entered to a new stage.The main reasons for the dislocation of the Party's policies toward intellectuals mainly lie in the development of the Party's "Left" mistakes; the Party's wrong judgment of the class attribute of intellectuals, confusing their class status with their family background; and the Party's hostile tendencies toward intellectuals strengthened by Mao Zedong's "superficial theory", the tendencies to underestimate knowledge and intellectuals in the Party and the impact of the international situation. In the new period of socialist construction, the Party's scientific analysis of the class attribute of intellectuals and the establishment of "science and technology are the primary productive forces" enable the Party to formulate policies toward intellectuals in accord with reality.The exploring course of the Party's policies toward intellectuals after the founding of the PRC brings us profound enlightenment: the Party must establish a correct view of intellectuals;earnestly implement the principle "let a hundred flowers blossom and a hundred schools of thought contend"; and practice more scientifically and democratically when formulating policies, this way the Party's policies toward intellectuals can not see any major deviation.
