In 2004, Iran broke seals placed on the uranium centrifuges by the IAEA in 2003and resumed construction of the centrifuges at Natanz nuclear facility; which drewwide attention from the international community. Iran insists that its nuclear programis aimed solely at the peaceful production of nuclear energy. But the Americans andEuropeans suspect Tehran's ultimate goal is the production of nuclear weapons. Beinga signatory to the Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty, Iran insists that using atomicenergy for peaceful purposes is their certain right. While the United States holds thatthe Iranian nuclear issue should be referred to the UN Security Council for sanctionsand doesn't rule out the use of force to solve the issue. This thesis is focused on thehistory of Iran's nuclear program, its ambitions as well as relations between Iran andthe United States, in order to analyze the possible outcome of the issue. There might be three outcome of the nuclear issue: one is that the SecurityCouncil might impose tougher sanctions on Iran to force Iran to abandon its nuclearprogram. If not, the US and its allies would take military actions to solve the issue.Second, the United States would launch air strike to destroy Iranian nuclear facilities, which would delay Iran's nuclear program. Third, through negotiation, the two sideswould make substantial concessions to reach a consensus. In this way, the nuclearissue can be resolved peacefully. The United States has sent two aircraft carriers to thegulf and maintains that negotiations are the first choice of America to solve the issue, but doesn't rule out the use of force. Speculations of an imminent war are increasing, but there is room for talks to solve the issue peacefully.
