It was proposed as a strategic task during the 18th National PublicSecurity Work Conference to develop the education featured with "publicsecurity". Strengthening the characteristics of the public security-orientedcolleges and universities is, thus obviously, significant for improving theeducational effects of the public security-oriented colleges anduniversities in order to better running them.In recent years, while undertaking the task of training the in-servicepolicemen, the public security-oriented colleges and universities havealso provided the public security organs with yearly over 10,000graduates with credential education background, which has made thecolleges and universities one of the main resources of the public securitystaff. As an important base for educatingand training, policemen, thepublic security-oriented colleges, and universities have to, taking itsprofessional characteristics into consideration, not only, abide by theeducational principles, but also embody their educational, featuresdifferent from other common, tertiary institutions. This results not onlyfrom the requirement of the Opening-up Policy and the SocialistMarketEconomy for compound application-typed talents, but also fromthe need of the public security-oriented colleges and universities forexistence and improvement as well as the law of running school.Since the public security-oriented higher education got off to a latestart and have not much recorded experience to learn from, we have tolearn how to do our job well through trial and error. Although workingand studying as a teacher in the public security-oriented college for few years, I think, in order to study the educational characteristics of thepublic security-oriented colleges and universities, we must start with thestudy of the educational characteristics of the higher learning institutions.While making careful study of the successful school-running patterns(professional education pattem and credential education pattern) of thepublic security-oriented colleges and universities at home and abroad aswell as the related characteristics, we can compare the threecharacteristics of "Politics-orientedness", "Protection-orientedness" and"Separation plus Development" emerging from the history of publicsecurity-oriented education. We must havea clear picture of the currentsituation and highlights of the discipline construction, the talentsdevelopment pattern, the teaching staff training and the reform ofcurriculum and teaching content so as to make further study andexploration, through constructing new style public security-orientededucational discipline system, compound application-typed talentstraining pattern, "double instructor-typed" teaching staff and otherrelevant teaching reforms, on how to adapt the public security-orientededucation to the future development of public security work and ensurethe public security-oriented colleges and universities to make newaccomplishment, new breakthrough and new contribution to the publicsecurity work and the public security staff.
