Will Durant said in his famous work that there is a man who can't be easily classified. He is a diplomat, historian, dramatist and philosopher. He is Nicclol Machiavelli. He is called the father of the Politics by the western scholars. His mind and theory put a deep impress on later studies.Machiavelli's main theories are expressed in < On Sovereign > and < Discourses on the First Ten Books of Titus Livy>. He advocated the Monarchy feverishly in < On Sovereign >, however in < Discourses on the First Ten Books of Titus Livy>, he eulogized the Republic warmly. This Contradict attitude makes lots of people confused. Actually, the Monarchy and the Republic are the two sides of his Politics theory. Those depended on the conditions of his motherland. They are not contradicting at all. Machiavelli is a realist. He advocated the Monarchy just as a tool . It is temporary and compelling. If we see it as a theory for establishing a country, we can make the Republic as a theory for managing a country. In Machiavelli's view, the Republic has more advantages than the Monarchy. This article bases on the < Discourses on the First Ten Books of Titus Livy>, Combining the studies on the Republic of Rome in our country, and tries to make an expression on the republic theory of Machiavelli. The article expresses it from the meaning of the republic, then Aggregate from the < Discourses on the First Ten Books of Titus Livy> that: the bases of Machiavelli's republic theory, the main Contents of Machiavelli's republic theory, and the main characters of Machiavelli's republic theory. Last, the Influence of Machiavelli's republic theory. In my view, the Machiavelli's republic theory has made the Politics stayed away from the Constraints of the Moral and he has cut off the relationship between the Politics and the moral. So he has opened a new passage for the history of the Politics. His Republic theory also has made a deep impression in the history.
