In the period of the Republic of China,as the development of the publishing industry and the popularization of mass replication technology,the piracy phenomenon also grows.This phenomenon is called "pirated books" phenomenon at that time.Due to the significant relevance with publishing business,authors' interests and the development of national culture,this phenomenon obtains enormous social concern.This paper opts the period from 1927 to 1937,to study the longitudinal evolution as well as the lateral distribution of the phenomenon.The paper also analyzes the composition of pirate gangs,and the power of combating the pirate activity.Through the presentation of divided subjects' conflict on pirated books phenomenon,to try to reflect the actual effect of copyright law.In addition,through the presentation of contemporaries' opinions on the pirated books,to show the divergence and the evolution of the copyright thoughts.Under the specific time and space,the study of pirated books can help us see the closely connection of pirated books phenomenon with social background.In virtue of this angle,we can also get the actual attitudes of contemporaries' towards knowledge production.
