With the rapid development of Internet and Computer technology, game industry based on them has experienced a great change through only 20 years, which industrial value has taked up a considerate proportion of the entertainment-oriented consumption , making the game industry one of the leading in the developed countries. In recent years, game industry has expanded itself at an amasing speed in China. However, the quick progressing is usually accompanied with a number of hidden troubles, one of which is game copyrights. There has been much improvement in the copyright law in China that rules related to the copyrights in the game field such as "Computer Software Protecting Regulations" has been carried out and made several sound effects. Yet we have to realize that these effects can no longer keep up with the changing situation nowadays. Due to its characteristic and the coming problems, the game coryrights have to get a deeper theoretical research and new measures should be given out through practice so that our country can calmly face the increasing disputes among the international copyrights of game, protect the legal rights of each side, and promote the healthy development of game industry in China.The present paper is divided into 3 chapters and organized as follow: Chapter 1 is the starting point of this study. An introduction is given to the significance of game copyright and its present situaion.Chapter 2 is the main part of the thesis, consisting of 4 sections: Section 1: the concepts of "game" and "copyright" are introduced and combined as the "game copyright", which is then given an illustration through its concept, characters, the execution of power and so on.Section 2: an comparative research is performed to the copyright statute. an summarization has been produced to the present situation of Chinese game copyright system and an enlightment is derived from the related foreign systems by analysing the correlated codes in game copyrights among foreign international private law, edge act and Chinese international private law.Section 3: this is the central part of the whole thesis. An research is proposed to the concrete problems of protecting Chinese game copyright through practice. 3 representative problems have been announced, and accordingly given specific countermeasures. They are: the recognizance of pirate infringement behaviour, the application of law to the dispute in game copyright, and the infrigement responsibility and judicial measures of game copyright.Section 4: the thesis goes deeper into one representative problem in game copyright--piracy, an analysis of its cause, advantages and disadvantages has been given with the help of the theory of balance of interests. Besides, the writer's personal viewpoints and suggestions towards piracy have been provided.Chapter 3 sums up the whole thesis. The writer puts forward several possible problems that might be encountered in the practical law protection of game copyright. It is called on that we should enhance both the theoretical and practical research in order that the game copyright system can keep pace with the times in China.
