The concept of trademark dilution can be illustrated as the act of reducing and blurring identification and distinctiveness of well-known trademark with the result of impairing or tarnishing the reputation of business. Well-known trademark dilution can be divided into three categories: blurring, tarnishment and degeneracy. Well-known trademark dilution is a new topic, it represents the trend of protecting the well-known trademark in the world.After some ten years' research, much has been achieved by the scholars in China in the field of trademark dilution. However, research in this field on the whole has not been to the depth, and many issues require further investigation. Although the present laws in China have many regulations to trademark dilution, they can not fulfill the realistic demands. There arise many cases as a result of trademark dilution. Consequently, trademark dilution law-making is becoming urgent both in theory and in practice.Starting with the attribute of well-known trademark, this essay presents an introduction to the value of well-known trademark, highlights the importance of protecting well-known trademark, then goes to the concept of well-known trademark dilution and gives a summary of the nature, characteristics, classification and practical specifics of well-known trademark dilution. To launch a more sound research to dilution theory and refer successful experiences of developed countries, an introduction is given to the relevant legal systems of well-known trademark dilution in developed countries, an analysis is presented to the problem of trademark anti-dilution protection in China and the progress and deficiency are explained as well. Finally, the essay concludes by considering new legal remedies for anti-dilution in China.
