Research On The System Of Selection And Management Of The Judicial Officials In Central Government Of Northern Song Dynasty

Between the Han dynasty , the Tang dynasty and the Ming dynasty , the Qing dynasty , the Song dynasty is very important in the developing history of the system of ancient china history . the emperor of the Song dynasty took the lesson from the history of latter time of the Tang dynasty and paid a lot of attention in the management on officials . then a huge and complex system of officials was formed . the Song dynasty is also a period of time in which the economy and the society developed fast . so , the administration work became more heavy and complex , as a result , the system of selection and management of the officials also developed . I chose to research the system of selection and management of the judicial officials in central government, based on the reasons as follows: at first , judicial officials in central government is a part of the entire system of officials , secondly , the judicial work is very hard and is easy to induce illegal act . so , the supervising and management on the judicial officials is more strict , at the same time the work of judicial institution has to be dealt with by the judicial officials with legal knowledge , so a special selection system was formed at Northern Song dynasty .This thesis research the system of selection and management of the judicial officials in central government of Northern Song dynasty from four dimensionality , they are selection ,supervising ,punishment and encouragement ,promotion .In the part of selection system , the thesis focus on the selection system named SHIXINGFA, which was a creation of Northern Song dynasty . The thesis expound the organizing institution , the test question of SHIXINGFA and who had the qualification to take part in the SHIXINGFA , and try to find the reason of the changing of the system .In the part of the supervising , the thesis expound the supervisors . the thesis divide the system of the supervising into two parts , the supervising in the daily life and the supervising in the work and focus on the latter .In the part of punishment and encouragement , the thesis focus on the administrative punishment and penalty . In the penalty system , the judicial officials with different responsibility for an offence would receive different penalty . In the administrative punishment system expound the "MOKAN" system ,which is very important in the whole system of management on the officials of Song dynasty . In the part of encouragement , the thesis expound the system of salary of the judicial officials in central government of Northern Song dynasty .In the part of promotion of position , the thesis expound the contradiction in the system..In the last part , the thesis summarize the whole system of selection and management of the judicial officials in central government of Northern Song dynasty .especially , the deep contradiction in the whole system is expounded in this part.
