A Research On The Absence Of Social Morals In Contemporary China

Content:Social morals are the most basic behavior criteria which citizens should observe in their social life. They are the minimum requirements in the moral standard systems, the foundation of the higher moral level such as professional dedication and contribution, and an important symbol of the progress of social civilization. The civilized behavior styles and good consciousness of social morality are of great importance to protect public interests of society and public order, to establish a good interpersonal relationship, to form a harmonious circumstance with people, to promote the society's development healthily and stably, and especially to achieve the goal of"creating harmonious culture and cultivating the prevailing customs of civilization"which was put forward in the report of the 17th Party Congress.However, the current situation of social morality in the real life now is not optimistic. The social public morality absence in contemporary china is quite severe, the representation of which is : in the relationship between human beings---no politeness and good manners, no respect to others, no honesty and faith; in the relationship between human and society---no cherish to the public property, harm to the public interests, dim consciousness to maintain public orders; in the relationship between human and nature---excessive pursuit of economic interests, willful damage to natural environment. On the basis of the analysis of the main contents, the meaning and the development evolution of China's social morals, this paper, through investigation and research, discusses about the current situation of China's social morality and the causes for absence of it, and the possibility of strengthening the construction of social morals in present China, and puts forward some approaches and methods to strengthening the construction of social morals. The goal is for making some contribution to constructing socialist harmonious society through deepening research of the theory.The main contents are as follows:Part one: the outline of social morals. Through combing the formation of public morality and the development evolution of social morals in China and the world, and analyzing the viewpoints of academic circles, this paper puts forward the meaning of social morals, the characteristics and the difference between public morality and private morality. According to"Implementation Outline of Construction of Civil Morality"issued by the CCP Central Committee in September 2001, which points out that social morals connote the relationship between human beings, between human and society and between human and nature, summarizes the main contents of social morals and proposes the concrete contents as follows: In the relationship between human beings, they mainly embody'politeness and good manners, readiness to help others'. In the relationship between human and society, they mainly embody'cherish to the public property and abiding by the laws and disciplines'. In the relationship between human and nature, they mainly embody'love for the nature and the environment'. Thus the determination of whether social morals are absent is provided.Part two: the current situation of absence of China's social morality. This part analyzes'moral decline'proposed by the current academic circles, and points out this proposal is not accurate, and also analyzes the relationship between'absence of social morals'and'moral decline', shows that they are the two quite different concept. People often substitute'moral decline'for'absence of social morals', which is not exactly right. Social morals are only part of the moral standard system, but not the whole part of it. Some examples of concrete manifestations of'absence of social morals'are given in this part.Part three: the analysis of the cause of social morals'absence. Reviewing the developing history of China's social morals, it is easy to find that the causes of absence of social morals are many. This paper analyzes them from the traditional society, the modern society and social moral itself. From the traditional society, the influences of the feudal traditional political structure of'co-construction of home and country'and'imperial autocracy', economic structure of small-peasant society, negative attitude to the traditional culture on absence of social morals are analyzed. From the modern society, the influences of the'ten chaotic years', planned economy and market economy are analyzed. From the social moral itself, the influences of the existing features and difficulties of the social moral itself, the public domain development and the formation mechanism of social moral are analyzed.Part t four: a new thinking of the construction of China's social moral. This part discusses about the establishment of the socialist market economy, which has broken the dependence relation between human beings in the traditional society, expanded the sphere of social public life and laid a good material foundation for the construction of social morals; has realized the people'economic liberation, cultivated the creators and observers of the socialist public morals and laid a manpower foundation for the construction of social morals. From the macroscopic, it has dealt with the relations between efficiency and equity, established good social cooperation orders, provided the social foundation for the construction of social morals, thus offered a possibility of strengthening the construction of social morals. Aiming at the present situation and causes of China's social morals'absence, by means of"cultivating civil awareness, improving the people's consciousness to comply with public morality; strengthening morality legalization, promoting the formation of the positive operation mechanism of the construction of social morals; cultivating awareness of public morality, promoting people to develop a good habit of observing social morals", this paper puts forward some approaches and methods to strengthening the construction of social morals.
