The national interest is one of the core concept of international politics, playing an important role in the international relations .Mougenthau once said, as long as the world is constituted by all countries under the anarchy condition, the national interest will be the core of world politics. Among the international society under the anarchy condition, nation is main and also the most important behavior body, so each nation takes the national interest as the starting point and standpoint of external relations, and always realizes its national interest by all kinds of means. All establishment of foreign policy of each nation is for the sake of realizing its national interest, and each diplomacy activity is also for the sake of realizing its national interest .It is also to be for China. Along with the transformation of international and internal condition, and comprehensive strength and international position improving, China can and should extend and maintain its own national interest at the larger scope and at the bigger degree after the Cold War. This text tries to carry on research and study extension and maintenance of China's national interest from two levels of the theory and practice. This text is divided into three parts:First, segments of China's national interest. According to the importance of different impacts, China's national interest can be divided into key, vital and general interests. The author will draw a general picture of them respectively, and take a close look at the general situation of how China's national interests run.Secondly, extension of China's national interest. The author tries to illustrate the presupposition and potentiality of extending China's national interest in terms of economic globalization, transportation and communication; the scope of China's national interest out of land power, air power and sea power; the essence of China's national interest from the view of politics, economy and culture. Furthermore, the author will find the feasibility to extend China's national interest.Thirdly, maintenance of China's national interest. The author will do relevant study domestically and externally. Domestically, China should enhance its comprehensive national power and take opportunities to continue its peaceful development and growth, both of which are the rudiment for China to extend and maintain its national interest; externally, on the one hand, bilateral and multilateral cooperation at all levels must be a key focus; on the other hand, the institution of international organization or regime will not be perfect without China's active participation, all of which will stimulate China to achieve its national interest tremendously.
