The Study Of Objective Analysis On The Layout Features Of Handwriting And Relations With Personalities

Objective: The purpose of the study is to probe objectively into the measurement of the layout features of handwriting and the analytical methods, and to analyze the relationships between layout features of handwriting and Kartaier's 16 personality factors.Methods:1. By searching literature, the definition of this study on the handwriting variables and its measurement has been made, and 312 teaching staff and 129 students enrolled in 2005 at Shanxi Medical University have been measured through the direct measurement.2. The data of 16PF have been obtained from 129 students of 2005 by way of the archives of psychological census.3. Statistical Analysis : SPSS 16.0 Statistical Software has been applied to record the data. The research on layout features of handwriting was used by ICC, factor analysis and cluster analysis.The research on layout features of handwriting and their relations with personality have also been adopted by multiple regression methods.Result:1. The test-retest reliability of the same handwriting of various (different) layout features of handwriting at different periods is over 0.49.2. Factor analysis shows that the contribution rate of the total variance is 75.8%. This was done from the ten layout features of handwriting such as the number of the lines, the number of the words in the line, the top margin, the bottom margin, the left margin, the right margin, the kerning, the spacing, the slanting (tilting) of the lines, and the slanting (tilting) of words and the following five factors were extracted: pre-laying aside space, longitudinal space, transverse space, independent space and running space.3. The samples of the handwriting were classified into two categories according to different layout features of handwriting through cluster analysis.4. The results of multiple regression analysis show as follows: Firstly, the left margin in the layout features of handwriting is negative correlation to Rule-cnsciousness, Apprehension, Privateness and Warmth but is positive correlation to Self-reiance and Social boldness. The right margin in the layout features of handwriting is positive correlation to Self-reiance, but negative correlatin to Privateness and tension. Both the top margin and the bottom margin in the layout features of handwriting are negative correlation to Warmth and Dominance but are positive correlation to Social boldness, Apprehension. Spacing is negative correlatin to Warmth while kerning is positive correlation to Dominance, but negative correlation to Vigilance. The slanting of lines is negative correlation to Perfectin and the italics is also negative correlation to the Liveliness. Secondly, the space of downward extension of the potential factors of the layout features of handwriting is negative correlation to Warmth. Independent space is negative correlation to Warmth and Sensitivity, but is positive correlation to Vigilance. Transverse space is positive correlation to Self-reiance. Pre-laying aside space is negative correlation to Privateness. Running space is negative relation to Prefection.5. Based on the result of 16 PF as the criterion, the correct rate of judging the acceptance and rejection of the personality features by layout features of handwriting is from 40.31% to 69.56%.Conclusion: The layout features of handwriting of the same handwriting at different periods are comparatively stable. Directly perceived the layout features of handwriting are affected by the following 5 factors: pre-laying aside space, longitudinal space, transverse space, independent space and the running of the space. Through cluster analysis, people can be classified objectively by their layout features of handwriting. There is certain relations existed between layout features of handwriting and 16PF. The Liveliness, Rule-cnsciousness, Sensitivity,Vigilance,Perfection and Tension are related to a certain layout feature of handwriting, while Warmth ,Dominance,Social boldness, Privateness, Apprehension and Self-reliance are related to more layout features of handwriting. The validity of judging personality factors by layout features of handwriting is in medium degree.
