Ideal And Tragedy

The Communist Party of Kampuchea(CPK),also be called Khmer Rouge,was one of the most mystical political parties in the world.Its predecessor was the Khmer People's Revolutionary Party,which was established under the direct influence of the Indochinese Communist Party in 1951,and developed in the anti-France movements. In September 1960,the Communist Party of Kampuchea was founded formally.Later, the CPK adhered to the principle of independence,escaped from the control of the foreign party,and underwent long-term revolutionary struggle in jungle.In 1970,the Cambodian War of National Liberation broke out.The CPK participated in the national unity govemment led by Sihanouk.In the war,the CPK aroused,organized and led Cambodian people to fight against American and Lon Nol group,and made great contribution to the country's independence and nation's liberation.On April 17,1975,the Cambodian revolution achieved success and the CPK became the ruling party.However,the CPK didn't know the principles of how to be a ruling party,and wasn't aware of transferring a revolutionary party to a ruling party. Then,the subjective idealism expanded in the CPK.After being in power,the CPK leaders were so fanatic and optimistic that they disregarded the Cambodian reality, and violated the objective laws of the social economic development.They adopted a series of ultra-left policies in the society's reconstruction and economic development.The CPK forced more than 2 million urban residents to rush into suburb areas within several days.They carried out the nationalization and collectivization comprehensively to eliminate the private ownership thoroughly.They executed the supply system among all the people without commodity,currency,and wage,which aimed to realize equal distribution.They reconstructed social structure,divided people into different ranks,canceled families,exercised rationed marriages,and let them live military lives.Ideologically,the CPK tried to keep people in ignorance and intensified the control of people's thoughts.They tried to realise the Communism at once in Cambodia through the Super Great Leap Forward.The CPK also extended class struggles,and massacred numerous people in the name of revolution.Moreover,the CPK abandoned its former allies,and destroyed the united front with Sihanouk.They separated themselves from the international society to construct their country.They also adopted the ultra-left policy when dealing with the relation with Vietnamese.All in all,people suffered a lot from the CPK's ultra-left policies,so the CPK gradually lost Cambodian people's support,lost the regime and collapsed finally. The senior leaders of the CPK originally expected to construct an ideal society and create a historical miracle in Cambodia.However,in the end,they actually directed a rare tragedy in 20th century.The huge disparity between ideal and reality was worth deep thoughts.Why the CPK carried out ultra-left policies? This essay analyses the reasons under the background of the Cambodian reality,the historical and cultural traditions,combining with the party's reality and the leaders' characters. It was.the CPK's ultra-left policies that led to the lost of the regime and the collapse of the party.It teaches us profound lessons.We must correctly understand the fundamental problem that "what is socialism and how to construct socialism".We must intensify the construction of democracy and the rule of law,respect and safeguard the human rights as well.We must strengthen the party's construction of thoughts and theory,and enhance the consciousness of being in power.In a word,we should be alert to being right-leaning,but what we should do principally is to prevent being left-leaning.
