As one of the busiest channel in the world, The Malacca Strait carries 1/3 of the world's trade amount, as well as half of the world's oil sea transportation. To its most important users, such as China, Japan, South Korea, India and so on, its place has played a much more uncomparable role. Any damage to this chokepoint can cause serious economical and security consequence. As a matter of fact, the channel itself is a vulnerable place; put aside the complex hydrological conditions and the crowd lane that can easily cause a traffic accident. Furthermore, the piracy in this area is just like a tumor on the sea transportation, causing great harm to it.The thesis first has made a research on the primary affairs of the strait, including its geographical location, length, hydrological data, and so on; then formulate the definition of piracy, followed by data and forms to introduce the history and present of the piracy in this strait, trying to find the cause for the ever lasting piracy in this area since human history from economical, political, judicial, and martial aspects. At last, it has probed into the situation of international cooperation in fighting against this crime: the existing situation, insufficiency existed, how to improve, considering the importance of the strait to China. This paper has paid great attention to provide political advice to the government, hoping to be of some use in maintaining the interests of China in this field.
