Nowadays, energy has been the most important thing for the country to support thesustainable development of the national economy. Energy security not only wouldjeopardize a country’s economic,political security, but also have a critical influence ona country’s national development strategies.Strait of Malacca is the key junction whichconnects the Pacific Ocean and Indian Ocean. It is famous for its important role intransportation. The bulk of imported oil and gas from the Persian Gulf, Africa,Mediterranean passes through the Strait of Malacca and reaches China, Korea andJapan.This article is divided into four sections. The first section is introduction, whichdescribes and the elements of traditional and non-traditional threats to security oftransport channel in the Strait of Malacca. The second part focuses on relativefundamental principles of international law and the specific international treaties.Simultaneously, in the third part, the author analyzes the deficiencies of the law andmake suggestions for revision. The final part points out the energy predicament inStrait of Malacca faced by China and put forward some legal suggestions.The core of this thesis is to analyze legal protection of the energy transport channelsecurity in the Strait of Malacca from the angle of non-traditional threats. Althoughnatural cause and traditional threats are cause for unsafety of energy transport channel,too few countries have solved the problems by signing a international treaty.Especially for traditional threats, most of them are problems left over by history. Tosolve these problems needs the interaction of various means, including: politicaldiplomacy and legalistic approach. So both of them are not detailed here.The innovation of this article are: firstly, the thesis put the sea-lane security for energyin Strait of Malacca as an independent issue. Secondly, the article analyzes the issuefrom the point of legal view rather than international politics. Thirdly, the articledescribes the difficulties faced by china and put forward some legal advice.
